For this you will need:
- Buttermilk (Or another milk to substitute for the buttermilk)
- Hidden Valley Original Ranch Salad Dressing & Seasoning Mix
Instructions For A Large Size For 100 People.
This is about 10 gallons of ranch, so you will need a container that can hold this much, and a large mixer connected to a cordless drill to mix this in a large bucket with a top that can hold 10 gallons of ranch. You will need a place big enough to keep the ranch cold until it is ready for use. If needed, put the mixture in smaller containers to refrigerate later if needed for space issues.
- Put 5 gallons of mayo into the bucket.
- Put 4 and 1/2 gallons of buttermilk into the bucket.
- Put 80 packets of Hidden Valley original ranch dressing mix into the bucket.
- Connect the drill mixer to the cordless drill and thoroughly mix it all together.
- Cover it and store it in a large refrigerator or cooler until it is ready to use.
To make cayenne ranch from this, add 1 and 1/2 cups of cayenne pepper powder to the mix before stirring.
Instructions For Making Ranch For A Small Party.
This is suitable for making ranch for a small or medium sized party. You might be able to even use it for a large one depending on how many people there are. This is the amount for about 20 people. You will need a container to mix in that can hold atleast 2 and 1/2 gallons.
- Put 1 gallon of mayo into the container.
- Put 1 gallon of buttermilk into the container.
- Put 20 packets of Hidden Valley original ranch mix into the container.
- Thoroughly mix it together with a large whisk.
- Store it in the refrigerator until it is ready for use and cover it.
Add 1/3 cup of cayenne pepper powder to this to make cayenne ranch.
Instructions For Making Ranch Dressing Just For Yourself.
- Put 2 cups of mayo into a container.
- Put 2 cups of buttermilk into the container.
- Put 2 packs of the Hidden Valley original ranch mix into the container.
- Thoroughly mix it together with a whisk.
Add 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper powder to make this into a cayenne ranch dressing.
If you are having trouble getting all the mayo out of the containers, then use a spatula for scraping mayo.
When mixing together, make sure that the bottom and all parts of the ranch are thoroughly mixed to prevent lumps from appearing at the bottom of the ranch.
You can adjust the thickness of the ranch dressing by using more mayo in the ingredients. For less thickness, use more milk/buttermilk in the mixture.
The buttermilk is what most restaurants use for making the ranch dressing, but you can use regular milk instead as a substitute, as the packets are actually designed for mixing with regular milk.

How To Make Ranch Dressing Mix From Scratch
If for some reason you don’t want to use the ranch powder packets or you don’t have access to the ones you want, you can make ranch mix from scratch with buttermilk powder, dried dill, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, dried parsley, dried chives, and salt. All of these will have to be mixed together with buttermilk powder being the most important ingredient.
