Does boba give you energy

Does boba give you energy when you drink it? Here we will dive into that and find out all the sources of energy within the bubble tea drink that can boost your energy. We will see which provide the most energy, so you can get the most out of what you love.

Bubble tea is a drink filled with carbohydrates, which when consumed, enter into the body and are quickly broken down. After they are broken down, they turn into sugars, which then is converted into insulin by the pancreas, thus giving you energy.

Most boba drinks are made with tapioca pearls, which is a great source of energy due to the high amounts of carbohydrates in them. Carbohydrates are important because they full both the body and your brain with energy, increasing daily functionality.

How Much Energy Does Tapioca Pearls Have?

Let’s talk about the tapioca pearls first. These are the main source of energy found in the boba tea. There are around 45 grams of carbohydrates found in a 16 ounce boba tea drink. The more pearls, the more energy.

The type of carbs found in the boba pearls are the complex carbs, which is found in starch. These carbs are different from the simple carbs, which break down faster. The complex carbs have more nutrients than simple carbs.

Because of this, boba pearls take longer to digest than the simple carbs found in sugars. This makes tapioca pearls a good gluten-free substitution for wheats.

This also means that tapioca pearls can provide a more steady flow of energy throughout the day instead of quick spurts that fade away.

The amount of energy that is provided by carbs is around 3 to 4 calories per 1 gram. Calories, put simply, is the way we interpret energy gained from edible sources. Even though calories get a bad reputation now a days, that is all it is.

It is a measurement of how much energy a food source provides.

Considering that the body burns on average around 50 calories an hour when only at rest, tapioca pearls is a good source of energy. A cup of tapioca pearls can provide enough energy to cover about 5 hours worth of that time.

Is The Tea In Bubble Tea A Good Energy Source?

When it comes to tea in bubble tea,  the calories are actually very low. The calories in boba tea are around 2 to 4 for the entire drink. This means that tea is not necessarily a good source of energy.

However, tea makes up for this with the caffeine it contains. All real tea contains some level of caffeine, which works by blocking the chemicals that make you feel tired, and releasing adrenaline in lesser degrees.

Tea can contain anywhere from 6 to 70 milligrams of caffeine per cup. White teas would have the lowest amounts of caffeine, and black teas would have the highest amounts. The amount of caffeine gained from tea leaves can be increased by steeping the tea leaves longer.

In this way the tea in bubble tea becomes a decent source of energy if you’re referring to the caffeine, but not when it comes to calories. It cannot really ‘give’ you energy. Coffee has significantly more caffeine in comparison.

Does Milk In Bubble Tea Give You Energy?

Now let’s look at the milk in bubble tea.

Some bubble tea drinks don’t have milk in them just so you know. And milk tea would vary in how much milk is used in ration with the tea.

But let’s say that the bubble tea did include milk and about 1 cup of milk was added to the mix. The normal milk used widely for bubble tea is whole milk.  So, this would be around 12 grams of carbohydrates, and 12 grams of sugar.

So comparing the amount of energy in milk to the amount in tapioca pearls, this would be 50 percent, or half of the energy you would gain from 1/3 of a cup of boba pearls.

Milk contains simple carbs (sugars) that break down faster and give energy in a faster rate than tapioca pearls.

Milk teas can also give you energy from the milk added to them. Milk often contains vitamin B12, which helps to prevent tiredness. It helps to break down fats and proteins in the body to convert them into glucose for energy.

Do Fruit Flavored Bubble Teas Give You Energy?

We have already established the level of energy gained from a 16 ounce bubble tea by taking a look at the milk, tea, and boba. Let’s look at fruit flavored boba teas.

Bubble tea drinks with fruit in them can further help boost energy levels with the natural sugars found in them. The sugars are glucose, fructose, and sucrose.

They can prevent tiredness and boost energy levels throughout the day in many ways.

A banana flavored boba drink for instance contains vitamin B6, which aids in preventing tiredness.

Also, picking fruit flavors with more calories will result in more energy.

Here are some of the bubble tea flavors with high calories for energy:

  • Grape
  • Avocado
  • Blueberry
  • Jackfruit
  • Mango
  • Banana
  • Plum
  • Coconut

These all have high calories in density.

Some other berries like strawberries and blackberries have considerable amounts of carbs. The banana and grapes have larger amounts of carbs to fuel the body with energy.

So How Much Energy Bubble Tea Give You?

Bubble tea has many components that can each supplement the body with energy (fruits, tea, milk, and boba). It can be expected that the average 16 ounce bubble tea can provide enough energy to last for more than 7 hours while the body is at rest.

A pearl milk tea can provide both the simple and complex carbs for short term, and prolonged energy boosts throughout the day.
